Female carpenter bees build their nests by tunneling into wood, creating a perfectly circular hole resembling one made by an electric drill. Bees' nests are constructed in tunnels within the wood, expended over the years. Carpenter bees can also enter structures through existing screw or nail holes left uncovered, so it is recommended you cover them up.
